There are many reasons I love this fic, but I’ll just mention two. The first is the lovely way templeremus captures Sam and Annie’s relationship. They’re still trying to figure out how this new relationship works, and there’s a tenderness and awkwardness about them that I just adore. I especially love Sam’s insight into how his “desperate, drowning need” for her has changed now that he’s come to terms with being in 1973.

And second is the way that, despite having chosen to return to 1973, Sam is not happy-go-lucky about it. There are still things about 1973 that rub him the wrong way. There are still times he feels out of place and times he doubts his perceptions of reality. This fic is a good look at what Sam’s life is like once the OMG 1973?!? has worn off.
