Why this must be read:
We're told in the appendix that while the battles were raging at Minas Tirith and the Morannon, Lothlorien was also under attack. This story undertakes the monumental task of describing these battles and does so in a very authentic way. Underlying it all is the passionate but difficult relationship between Galadriel, Celeborn, and a certain ring of power.
Not many authors can convincingly write from the Elves' point of view. Marnie not only understands the essentially incomprehensible nature of the Elves to us mortals, she uses it to her advantage.
