Why this must be read: Even if you don't generally care for AUs, trust me and give this one a try. It's a strange and wonderful take on the pilot episode, but with one significant twist: everyone has a superpower. Well — except for a small number of individuals, DCI Sam Tyler being one. And when he finds himself thrown from 2006 to 1973, he's determined to work out who was responsible. I love that he never even considers that he might be mad or in a coma; obviously Sam's back in time, because in this 'verse, that is actually the most rational explanation.

But the real beauty of this story is, everyone's startlingly true to character. The author sketches out the scenario succinctly, then tells her story with such conviction that you almost forget this isn't a standard episode. It's that imaginative, that good.

They’re letting Raimes go.

“It means nothing,” Maya tells him.

“It means Colin Raimes is not our murderer.”

“It means Colin Raimes is an unstable class D super who for all you or I know could very much have it in his ability to kill people from afar.”

“He’s not got an ability registered.”

“Sam, you’ve not got a registered ability.”
