No Such Thing as Coincidence by Musegaarid (PG-13ish)

Fandom: due South

Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski

Length: About 3,300 words

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] musegaarid

Author Website: Her Masterlist

Why this must be read:

Is there anyone who doesn't like epistolary fic? Uh-huh, I thought so. *g*

This fic takes on that genre and builds up a sweet and funny and occasionally naughty budding romance between two lonely people. Fraser brings the weirdness (as he's wont to do in dS) while RayK gives us the heart and honesty of a man who is full of want and need (without coming off creepy or pathetic.)

It's a quick read, but one that really satisfies. [livejournal.com profile] musegaarid has spun a very groovy story that is enjoyable even for those not involved in the fandom.

An ad in the Chicago Tribune...

It was the case, in medieval China, that a woman would search for a lover by writing a poem on a lotus leaf and letting it float down a brook. If the fates allowed, the man who discovered the poem would then find the woman, and they would share a heart, a home, and a bed.

There not being much in the way of small waterways in the greater Chicago area (certainly a leaf would be lost on the Chicago River) and not being much of a poet myself, I will instead copy the words of another and find a different means of getting this message to you. If you are the one, please look for me. I find myself growing increasingly lonesome here.

Among the beautiful clouds,
Over the heavenly river,
Crosses the weaving maiden.

A night of rendezvous,
Across the autumn sky,
Surpasses joy on earth.

Moments of tender love and dream,
So sad to leave the magpie bridge.

Eternal love between us two,
Shall withstand the time apart.
