Why this must be read:
It's so hard to describe this fic in just a few sentences... The premise itself is relatively simple: An infiltration of a cult results in a brainwashed partner. But through that circumstance, we see just how precariously fragile Nite Owl and Rorschach's partnership really is. It's delivered here in a story that presents the darkness of the characters' world with an almost dreamlike delicacy, and gives us some rare and wonderfully-written interaction between Rorschach and Hollis in the process.
'"This is your house," he says for what must be the twentieth time, gloved hangs slung heavily across his knees. In the bed, Daniel is clinging to the sheets in something like terror; had been shocked, today, to wake up in a strange new place. It hurts to see but it's probably a good sign that the giddy elation is fading. "Daniel. You're safe here."'
