Why this must be read: This is one of my favorite stories and the perfect intro to this month's theme: Jim's heightened senses. Reality is shaped by what we can perceive and Jim simply 'sees' more than standard humans can. Spyke does an amazing job of conveying just how different Jim's reality is. This story, more than any other, has shaped my awareness of the possibilities in writing Sentinel fan fiction. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

The first thing I notice is the wind trying to blow through me.

The second is Blair doing his best to shelter me from it.

Blair is shorter than I am. It doesn't work.

It still feels great.

He smiles, and the hand cupping my cheek caresses gently.

"Welcome back Jim."

Spike's stories are just so... different. Deep, dire... something I really can't describe. Segue is still a story that stays with me. This is one I haven't read, so thanks!

Cool! I don't know how I missed Spyke's fic, but I've never read anything of hers before and I'll definitely be checking out the rest of her stuff at 852 too. I love difficult emotions & non-mushyness between the guys, and the way the fic uses Jim's senses is compelling and mind-stretching. There are some lines in there and thoughts in there I just want to hunker down with and croon over...

Man, I was flakey this month. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. There's so much fic in this fandom and a lot of the older stuff seems to fall off the radar with newer fans. Spyke's fic definitely has a distinctive feel and I love her work, particularly the two I recced this month. This one in particular shaped my view of Jim's senses in a microscopic way. I'm really grateful to Spyke for that.
