Why this must be read:

Alternating btw Gai & Kakashi's POV, Leaning Against the Sun is a stark look into the complex relationship between 'Eternal Rivals'. A dark insight taken when the characters are 19, this exposes all the wounds two ANBU carry and what makes them both such effective ninja for Konoha.

I really appreciated the author's writing this as a stream of consciousness, it gives the story a bleak, bitter feel which I never thought to get from Gai. It's stark and pointed with Angst dripping but there are glimpses of hope for the future. Wish these authors wrote more of this pairing but there is also some incredible Kakashi/Sasuke available on SubTextual's LJ as a bonus as well as some Kakashi/Iruka artwork. Yum!

And I'm so sorry, you are, of course, very correct it is from both's view. I tried to shorted my rec and cut out a paragraph I wrote about the POV and hope and despair and .. sigh, it was a lot longer when I original wrote the rec. But I have been told I, ahem, oversell a story so I was trying to trim it. You're one of the few authors I've ever seen write from Gai's POV and I found it fascinating. But I didn't mean to ignore Kakashi - heaven forbid - Please accept my apologies!!!

Thank you so much for the rec! ♥ I pretty much never write fanfics ever because I find it so hard to write on my lonesome, but helping to make that story was a whole lot of fun, and I'm definitely proud of the result. It was great to be able to dig down so deep into Gai's psyche too, especially since I hadn't spent much time writing with or thinking about him before this.
