Ship Building by Jess (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: none
Author Website: none
Why this must be read: This is a long, satisfying, angsty, shippy case file. Heh, that "shippy" turns out to be a pun, as the "ship building" of the title is both literal and figurative. In the days after Millennium, the episode that gave us our first Mulder/Scully kiss, Scully is called to Seattle to work on a serial murder case, and Mulder's left behind to chase a few ships of his own.
Jess is perhaps best known for her smut-writing abilities, which are formidable, but this fic gives us the best of all worlds: sex, romance, angst, and plot. Not necessarily in that order.
"Scully!" he called and ran forward, catching her at the edge of the gate. She dropped her carry-on and waited for him to touch her, to pick her up and kiss her hard, which he did. Her mouth opened and for a moment he felt her tongue touch his, and then he was setting her down, red-faced and glassy-eyed. "Stay safe," he said.
"Call me a lot," she answered and then she was gone, walking briskly till she disappeared around the corner into the belly of the plane.
He waited a moment, then dialed the number on his cell phone.
"Not this soon," she laughed into his ear.
