Why this must be read:
Tipper is one of the queens of SGA action/adventure fics with spot-on characterizations and jaw-dropping examinations of human emotion. In my humble opinion, Failure to Communicate is one of her best examples of this. Rodney is severely injured in an escape attempt with John and the others are captured in a mission gone very FUBAR. With a strained friendship and Rodney losing blood fast, Sheppard and McKay must find a way to survive and save the others. Tipper just has a gift in portraying the strain of a friendship on the rocks because of a misunderstanding and a lack of communication. John and Rodney's struggle to overcome this barrier and still save their friends is an incredible journey and yet a very sad one. In the final rush to the finish and heart-stopping finale, Tipper will leave you breathless from her very firm grasp of suspense and the coming together of the threads of rescue. Definitely a fantastic fic to illustrate the action/adventure and characterization sides of Stargate fanfiction!
"Stay awake, McKay," the colonel ordered, his tone icy. "Don't you dare pass out on me, understand?"
McKay grunted. "No undue pressure, eh?" he quoted weakly, attempting a weak chuckle at the poor joke. He turned his eyes to Sheppard again, but if he hoped to get the other man to smile or even smirk, he was disappointed. The colonel was focused only on keeping pressure on the wound. McKay's smile faded.
They passed a couple of minutes in silence, until McKay cleared his throat again.
"Colonel?" he whispered. Sheppard glanced up from his work, grimacing a little when he saw the strangely guilty looking expression on McKay's face. "I'm...I'm sorry...."
"For what?" Sheppard snapped angrily. The scientist winced at the harsh tone.
"For...," McKay closed his eyes, "I don’t know. For everything."
