Why this must be read:
The epitome of the superpower AU in my humble opinion, this fantastic fic takes us through the start-up of the Atlantis Expedition's trials in the Pegasus Galaxy and follows it through Season 1 with many of the characters having superpowers courtesy of the more common ATA-gene. Leah and Springwoof design a wonderfully detailed AU where superpowers give whole new layers to social interactions and the way the Expedition functions. How they made these superpowers work and detailed their ramifications on their owners is just incredible. That by itself would have made this an out of this world AU, but these two also give us some history behind the superpowers and how they affect the Expedition's new home in Pegasus and how they interact with its natives as well. All together, this fic is a wonderful journey into a well-crafted AU full of fantastic characterizations and fast-paced action. This fic also jump-started two sequels and countless off-shoot fics, plenty to keep you happy with.
O'Neill huffed out a breath, and Elizabeth didn't need her Gift to tell she'd surpassed the limits of his patience. "Look, Elizabeth," he said. "You don't have to take him to Atlantis--he didn't exactly seem all that hot on the whole ATA gene-stargate-aliens thing anyway. But you have to remember, he's out here in the ass-end of nowhere because he charmed someone to let him do the right thing. So he screwed a little with the mind of one colonel because he knows you don't leave anyone behind. I'm not sure that's so bad."
"You know circumstances don't always let you do the right thing," Elizabeth said. It was something she'd already learned, and she hated it, but the art of negotiation was about being able to stomach the compromises. "I need to be certain he knows that, too."
O'Neill smiled grimly. "Oh, he knows it," he said. "Trust me."
Elizabeth smiled faintly in return, thinking of how loaded those words were, how loaded those words always were, coming from a Charmer.
