Why this must be read:

There are certain moments of canon that you just know are going to ping fandom’s Smut Radar. One of these is when Rinzler notices that Sam is bleeding and rumbles, “User.” Sure enough, round one, page one of the [livejournal.com profile] tronkinkmeme: “Any Program/Sam, anything to do with Users being able to bleed in the Grid. Because blood kink like whoa...” [livejournal.com profile] noctaval responded with this “missing scene”, in which Rinzler pays a visit to Sam’s cell during their trip aboard Clu’s ship to the lightcycle arena.
Sam was so successful at distracting himself that he was completely taken by surprise when Rinzler stroked a hand up his side from hip to ribcage, the gentle touch completely at odds with the otherwise vicious assault on his person. Sam jerked involuntarily, earning himself another shallow cut, and Rinzler pushed his head down again with a discontented grunt. Another feather-light touch ghosted up his torso and Sam felt a strange rush of energy prickling his skin, a cold sensation that swept down his spine and made his heart rate speed up. What the hell was that?

Rinzler continued the strange caress, the electric sensation trailing in the wake of his fingers. Sam was paralyzed with confusion and barely felt it when Rinzler used his disc to make another shallow cut along Sam's side, tracing it with his fingers. Sam shivered at the odd feeling, and Rinzler halted, pausing for a long moment.

:Do not struggle: came the mechanical voice, and before he could think to do so he was flipped over roughly, Rinzler's disc coming to rest at his throat.

Sam stared up at the program, who had apparently replaced his helmet; the front of his chest was still spattered with Sam's blood. Rinzler leaned in and touched two fingers to the back of Sam's neck, drawing them away wet as Sam tracked the motion warily. Rinzler seemed to be looking back and forth between the blood and Sam's face, rubbing the fluid between his fingers. The gladiator tilted his head to one side in apparent curiousity and leaned in so close Sam's eyes crossed watching him. He traced the contours of Sam's face with one bloody finger, almost as if confused.

The disc lifted away momentarily, and Sam took advantage of the brief lull to spit in his face, grabbing at the weapon with his one good hand in a last-ditch attempt to get free. Rinzler jerked back, startled, but whipped the disc out of reach before cuffing Sam across the ear. He grabbed Sam by the throat and slammed him against the floor again before pointing his disc at the offending hand, his implication clear. Sam gulped and ground his teeth furiously, but subsided. He settled for glaring at the program resentfully.

[livejournal.com profile] noctaval does a great conveying Sam’s tumultuous mental state: confusion, exhilaration at surviving the disc wars, a moment of wry pragmatism (“at least they hadn't discovered he didn't belong here by witnessing his messy decapitation”), his defiance even in the face of the frankly terrifying Rinzler. This is not a comfortable read, but it is a gripping one.
