Beauty by Nym (NC-17)
Fandom: Petshop of Horrors
Pairing: Leon/D
Length: ~5,000 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Here.
Warnings: Could be interpreted as dub-con; one character initiates sex in his sleep.
Why this must be read: It's sexy. It's beautifully written. It gives D and Leon the happy ending they never got in canon, but without dismissing the hardship and uncertainty that have filled the intervening years. Despite the fairytale plot device, this is not just a fairytale ending -- we never forget that it's been struggled and suffered for, and in the end that makes it realer and more emotionally satisfying.
When the nurse and doctor are gone, Leon takes a good look around the room. A machine is adding some drug to the tube that's dripping fluids into D's arm. There are spots of blood on the turnover of the sheet. The charts and notes are stuffed inches thick.
"You're lucky they aren't already dissecting you, moron."
He thinks that he only imagines the way D's eyelashes flutter at the sound of a familiar insult.
"Man, this isn't how it's supposed to go. You're supposed to be all pretty and smug in one of your girly gowns, and I'm meant to kick your skinny ass all the way back to fairyland, you freak."
It sounds flat. Pathetic. He doesn't know when exactly, in the last twenty years, his rage ran out.
