Visiting Hours (PG-13), by margo_kim
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam Tyler/Gene Hunt
Length: 2,800 words
Author on LJ:
margo_kim
Author Website:
Why this must be read:
Yes, I would happily recommend everything margo_kim has ever written. Why do you ask?
So, um, yeah, it's true; another Life on Mars author who can do no wrong. She has tackled the main pairing of this fandom (Sam/Gene) with outstanding results, as well as getting into some less-written but equally fascinating characters (Geoff/Vince) not to mention the guy everyone loves to hate, DCI Litton. But this particular fic is all Sam/Gene of the most amazing and heart-wrenching variety. Hurt/comfort is always a delicious combination of bitter and sweet, and this is an amazing example thereof. Sam's pretty profoundly messed up, here, physically, and we come to realize that his mental scars go quite deep as well. Gene, who has not been beaten up or tied to a pipe for thirty-two hours, is just as much a mess. I adore the tangled web of love here. It's beautifully written.
