Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 9064 words
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: http://www.squidge.org/~peja/cgi-bin/viewuser.php?uid=2281
Why this must be read: - When someone attempts to kidnap him, Blair finally loses patience, cracks and uses a skill that nobody knew he had to defend himself...
I keep saying this; I love stories that show a really strong Blair and also give him some background. This background is a little unexpected.

You obviously do a lot of research before you write your own stories, so I'm amazed you'd choose a story where the author so obviously failed to do so. Blair's background wasn't simply a little unexpected, it was untenable considering his age and eyesight. Good for a guilty pleasure fic, perhaps, but majorly flawed.

I suspect that for me this was a gut reaction kind of thing; probably, yes, a guilty pleasure, but I really liked this image of Blair.
You're right, there are punctuation and spelling mistakes which I should have mentioned. But when the story is carrying me along, I tend to ignore the cosmetic mistakes, and completely forgot about them.
Incidentally, re Blair's eyesight - I tend to the belief that he's long-sighted, and needs glasses only for reading. We don't see him wearing them that often. At least, that's my personal fanon. :-)

That happens to me as well, but unfortunately this one didn't carry me along as it did for you. Not nearly enough logical background building, and I got the feeling she was more familiar with fanon than canon.
As to the eyesight, I expect he's farsighted as well. The qualifications say eyesight has to be near perfect; it doesn't say whether near- or far-sightedness makes a difference. He would have been denied on that basis alone and it makes perfect sense why. All too easy for glasses to be broken or lost in a fire fight.
Until the next one, then.
