Why this must be read: - When someone attempts to kidnap him, Blair finally loses patience, cracks and uses a skill that nobody knew he had to defend himself...

I keep saying this; I love stories that show a really strong Blair and also give him some background. This background is a little unexpected.

Surprise

Wow, I hate to disagree, but this struck me totally opposite. Not only were the spelling and capitalizations (or lack there of) atrocious, but the whole premise was unsubstantiated. And Blair's "strength" seems to be bipolar. He can kick someone's ass but gets all weepy when Simon doubts his word? Characterizations all around were two-dimensional.

You obviously do a lot of research before you write your own stories, so I'm amazed you'd choose a story where the author so obviously failed to do so. Blair's background wasn't simply a little unexpected, it was untenable considering his age and eyesight. Good for a guilty pleasure fic, perhaps, but majorly flawed.

But when the story is carrying me along, I tend to ignore the cosmetic mistakes, and completely forgot about them.

That happens to me as well, but unfortunately this one didn't carry me along as it did for you. Not nearly enough logical background building, and I got the feeling she was more familiar with fanon than canon.

As to the eyesight, I expect he's farsighted as well. The qualifications say eyesight has to be near perfect; it doesn't say whether near- or far-sightedness makes a difference. He would have been denied on that basis alone and it makes perfect sense why. All too easy for glasses to be broken or lost in a fire fight.

Until the next one, then.
