Brothers And Other Strangers by Valentin
Title of fiction: Brothers And Other Strangers
Fandom: Highlander
Author: Valentin
Author web site: Valentin's Stories
Author on LJ: I don't know if she has an LJ
Pairing: Methos/Duncan
Why this must be read: Well, this story has two things that hardly ever seem to go together in Highlander, (or so it seems to me), plot and hot sex. Or, at least, I thought it was hot sex. You can decide for yourself. It is also an interesting look at something that
pouncer and I both seem to get from Methos' character--i.e. a tendency toward dissociative disorder. I'm also a sucker for a story that looks at Methos as truly different people over time.
So, read it! It has plot! It has sex! It was highly enjoyable in my opinion! If you disagree, we could discuss it below. If you agree, we could discuss it below. Don't forget that you can comment on my choices in recs!
Also, send feedback to the author! Feedback = Love!

First it was the squeeing. Then it was the icons that called fresh to my mind once more the fiery passion I had for a certain morally ambiguous 5000 year old cynic. Now it's the fic you shamelessly pimp.
*whimpers*
Just when you think you're out, they drag you back in again... LOL
Thanks for the GREAT rec, my dear ;)

Whee!
Highlander rocks! (Pete rocks, too, but that's something else entirely.)

Oh! I got a bounce on the email address on the story, though. I went to the website you listed and tried that one. It hasn't bounced back yet, so I assume it's working. :)
A good story, but....
One of my biggest peeves in fanfic is the "meandering point of view," where the point of view changes from one character to another within the same scene, or even the same paragraph. It's usually done so that the readers can understand what both characters are thinking at the same time, but it's not really a great writing technique. It tends to jerk the reader out of the narrative and leaves them thinking, "Huh? Methos was thinking something, so when did Duncan jump into his head?" Or something along those lines. It really does work better if the same point of view is maintained within a scene. If it's necessary to see things from another character's point of view, then a more obvious transition needs to be made, like starting a different chapter or something similar.
Other than that problem, I did find the story intiguing, sexy, and overall a good read. Thank you for the rec.

I agree that this will often bother me in fics. I have become so used to singular points of view in a scene that when I read changing povs in novels it bugs me!
I agree that this might have been a story that could have been told all from one pov or at least one pov per scene.
And, yeah, I'm in agreement that all in all, it is a good read. One of my faves in the fandom so far.
