Why this must be read: There are so many reasons to read this fic, but mostly I have to go with: Machiavellian!Archie. astolat takes this simple idea and runs with it to spin out one of the greatest character--driven stories in this fandom. As implausible as the idea is at first glance, she sells it with attention to persona and dialogue along with lovely details along the way that she pulls from "canon." This is a story that never gets old for me because it plays into so many of my personal longings for what I love in a good C/A story, and if you also like quirky first time fics with personality, this is the story to check out.

Be sure to check out the podfic by carolion; it adds a new dimension to the fic that I adore.

I'm going through all your recs and re-reading them. This one is ~awesome. I love this take on Cook and Archie. Archie gets so many zingers in on Cook, one of my favorite being, Cook had been, like, an idiot savant of strategy the whole competition. *g*

I love that line too. It's such a fun fic (and so close to the Kradam fic that I want to write).
