Absolutely Beautiful by Sary (PG)
Fandom: THE WEST WING
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Wednesday Night Rants
Why this must be read:
Hello! I'm willa, and I'll be your happy West Wing fic reccer for the month of June. I'm a Josh/Donna girl at heart, so the stories I rec here will most likely fall into that category. However, I'll read just about anything, and often find myself surprised at what I like when I give other pairings and situations a chance. I am a sucker for character-driven pieces, like, for instance...
"Absolutely Beautiful" by Sary. This is a post-ep for "Galileo" - this author does BRILLIANT post-ep stories - set during the interactive classroom. It provides quick insight into all of the staffers, what they're thinking while Bartlet teaches kids about Mars, how their minds wander when left to their own devices. I love all of these characters so much, and this story does a great job of capturing little pieces of them. The author weaves it all together by having the staffers interrupt each other's private musings, so that the POV is passed to each like a baton in a relay race. Plus, the dialog is spot on, like this little bit:
"Green beans," Josh whispered.
Sam turned to face him. "Excuse me?"
"I was just thinking about the green beans."
"Why?"
"I don't know."
"Okay."
"You know how sometimes thoughts just get stuck on your brain and you can't move on?"
"Josh, there's no reason to be thinking about the green beans."
"No, I know, I'm just --"
"Just -- thinking about the green beans anyway."
Josh shrugged. "I'm kind of hungry," he admitted. Sam smiled and turned away.

I'm looking forward to your recs. I'm decidedly not a J/D person, but I'm very willing to read some good ones. A big problem with this pairing, in my opinion, is that there's so much of it, it's hard to find the quality work--unless you''re more willing than I have been to search around. With someone else doing the searching, however, I expect I'll have better luck
