Why this must be read: The author's summary, "How Mordecai Heller became wanted for murder in St. Louis, Missouri: a story in five years, five hours, and one irascible Slav." really doesn't do justice to this delightfully dark take on a coming of age story. It's the development of Mordecai from a kid to a killer, in the context of Viktor and his influence. It's touching and violent in all the best ways.

Best Lackadaisy fic ever, bar none; seriously, only some hint of sex might make it better. But really, I don't think Mordecai's at a comfortable enough place for that, during this period of his life.;)
