Why this must be read:
Because among many excellent stories by this author, it's the one that I found the most revealing about the characters. Everyone recs slash stories by A. Leigh-Anne Childe (and please don't ask how long it took me to suss out the pronounciation of her name!) for a good reason, they're excellent! SO, just to be different, I'm reccing the only X-Files story she wrote that wasn't slash, but examines the relationship between Scully and Mulder.
Mulder isn't answering his phone, and Scully is worried. Perhaps with good reason.
She discovers something unexpected about Mulder, and then in a drunken game of Truth and Dare, they discover more about each other. Yes, it's the old fanfic staple of Truth and Dare, and it's a staple because it's a sure-fired way of getting naked interaction, even when the participants remain fully clothed.
As the title suggests, clothing is an important theme in this story, closely followed by sex. It's wacky, and clever, and amusing. You'll probably find yourself smiling at the end, but it may be a rather sad smile, so enjoy the banter on the way.
Scully leaned her head against the back of the chair. "This line of questioning is getting rather prurient and narrow in focus--don't you think?"
"Chicken--"
"Don't--!"
"--shit," Mulder finished cheekily, overlapping her.
"Fine...intercourse." She rolled her shoulders, tugged on her sweater. Fine. She'd said it. No big deal.
"You have to be more specific," Mulder said, eyelids lowering with cruel feline anticipation.
"More--" Then his meaning hit her and the blood flared in her cheeks. Glaring at him defiantly, she adopted her best clinical, Doctor Scully tone. "Vaginal intercourse, Agent Smut. Truth or dare."
Smirking, Mulder said, "Truth."
"What's your most common sexual act--with a partner?" She paused. "Aside from foreplay."
"Intercourse--anal," he said easily.
With malicious pleasure, Scully said, "You have to be more specific, Mulder. Top or bottom?"
