The Pendragon Job by frantic (NC-17)
Fandom: INCEPTION / MERLIN
Pairing: Arthur/Eames, Arthur Pendragon/Merlin, Ariadne/Cobb (non-explicit)
Length: ~ 18,900 words

Why this must be read: Robert Fischer has found out about inception and blackmails the team into doing a "small" favor for him: he wants them to incept the King of England (Arthur Pendragon) to abdicate his throne. But how do you get close to a king? Well, as it turns out, Eames went to school with him and Merlin, so a foot in the door is easily done even though it doesn't sit well with Eames to work against a friend.
Through the course of making King Arthur concede that yes, he has feelings for Merlin, Eames and Arthur also admit to their mutual attraction to one another. Ultimately, the story's not so much about inception as it is about pursuing the life you want. It's about love and forgiveness, friendship and trust. It's more than a little bit about believing in magic.
"I have no legal recourse for what you did to me. Yet," Fischer told him over steak. "Of course, I'm not entirely unreasonable. I know the circumstances. My life is probably better for it. The world is better for it."
Eames relaxed back against his chair, toying with a button on his shirt. "But."
Fischer held up a finger until he finished chewing. "I don't think I need to explain why having my mind burglarised by a bunch of hired thugs isn't something I'm happy about."
The quiet understatement in his voice reminded Eames of the dream-- Fischer, visibly upset but holding it together, willing to do whatever it took to finish things, facing his own kidnapping and death with a certain exasperated resignation. Eames had found himself liking Fischer a bit, the way a nanny might become fond of a particularly smart charge although he was still, after all, only part of the job.
Fischer wiped his mouth with a napkin and sipped his water before he spoke, and Eames prepared to hear his offer. People were so bloody predictable, but sometimes it was comforting. "I'm going to give you the opportunity to set things right by doing me a favour."
He tilted his head to indicate he was listening.
"I want you to convince the King of England to abdicate his throne," Fischer said, and Eames signaled for a refill.

It doesn't matter how old or new or (how popular) a story is, authors love feedback!
