Quagmire by kataja (Teen)

Hi everyone! I'm LVB, also known as [livejournal.com profile] phantompopcorn. I'll be driving the van for Star Wars fic this month. You can expect a lot of work coming from the EU era, especially between my OTP, Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade. So let's get on with it, shall we?

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Luke Skywalker/Mara Jade
Length: ~226k
Author on LJ: Not on LJ
Author Website: Kataja's Star Wars Fanfiction
Why this must be read: Kataja has created such a fantastic Alternate Universe in this story that it is so easy to believe this course of events actually transpired. Kataja's story begins early in RotJ where, along with Han and Chewbacca, he also rescues Mara Jade from Jabba's Palace. Kataja then thoroughly explores the life of Luke on Home One where Mara is there, secretly plotting espionage against the Rebellion.

The amount of detail here is fantastic. Kataja really pulls you in to this world. There are a few other interesting characters that pop up. If you are a hard-core Luke/Mara shipper, I would say that this story serves as a prelude to what is to come. Kataja does plan on this story being the first in a trilogy. There's a hefty dose of Luke/Other and a small Mara/Other but don't let that scare you. This story is an amazing example of the intelligent and thoughtful writing that comes out of the Star Wars fandom, and a long, plotty read to boot.

Excerpt

Mara herself, stopped behind a transparisteel window. The battle still raged outside, but the TIE's had broken their fierce attack and were now defending the Star Destroyers. Taking the whole chaotic scene in , it looked like the impossible was happening; the Rebels were winning.

But that was, as her Master would have said, immaterial. Allowing herself to draw on the Force for calm, Mara turned to stare down at the emerald orb that was the Forest moon of Endor. Skywalker was there, or on his way, she knew it; felt it, just as she felt the blood that rushed through her veins, thundering in her ears, dulling the ripping pain in her chest and somehow enabling her to cripple the bloodred fury that threatened to overpower her every moment.

Something burned in the corners of her eyes and she blinked rapidly, angrily, to get rid of the disturbing feeling. Mara took a deep breath. She was done here. Done with the Rebels. She had only one bill to pay.

And she would pay it. As soon as she could.

Hi. I'm very glad you included one of kataja's, as I've just started to read her work.
