The Sith Academy by various authors (various ratings, but adult stories are kept separate)

Fandom: STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE
Pairing: various, major pairing Maul/Obi-Wan

Why this must be read:

Well, I... it.... you....

How do you sum up the Sith Academy? It has single-handedly pulled in a large number of M/O shippers. I know it's where I started with the pairing. It's hysterically funny. It's sweet. It contains 181 stories, not counting the 17 wonderful NC-17 stories, and the 16 stories that are, for one reason or another, non-canon, but still good enough to be hosted at the site. It contains perky!drugged-up!Obi, and lecherous!Qui-Gon, lines like "Let your hate flow through you, wait for a tiny opening in traffic, then pass her illegally and flip her off", and it has something for everyone. Even if you're not feeling the M/O love, a large number of the stories are entirely gen humour.

"All right, my new apprentice, this is my apartment. You are not allowed on the couch."

The porcupine waddled across the floor and took a whiz on the leg of the coffee table.

Maul growled and thwacked the spiny mammal on the head with a rolled-up newspaper. The porcupine puffed up aggressively, spines sticking out in all directions.

"Ah, good my young apprentice. Use your hatred and strike out at me."

The porcupine didn't move.

"Strike out at me."

The porcupine continued to not move.

"Feel your hate! Strike out at me in anger! Use the power of the Dark Side and strike me down!" Maul frothed maniacally.

The porcupine curled up in a ball and started to shiver.

With a sigh, Maul realized that this might take a while.

If you're not up to reading the whole thing, I will probably, when I run out of ideas for other recs later in the month, be reccing a few stories by themselves. I feel guilty about cheating like this, but there is at least one that I think really must be singled out, and a couple of others that I would like to.

That all said:

Welcome to the Sith Academy

There are no words as to how good this is. Really. So, I am seconding this rec. With emphasis. (And you get to meet Mary Sue to end all Mary Sues. And you will like her!) :)

I second this rec! The Sith Academy is *so* worth reading. It was my main fandom throughout the TPM craze. And *cough* I did contribute a bit, with shite photomanips (compared to what I can whip up today). Like Yoda in drag (yes, he features in the stories)... *facepalms*

I know! There is so much stuff to read. I guess all of Siubhan's original stories would be the fisrst thing I'd rec, but you really have to read them in order to appreciate the whole thing. IMHO only the last few ones got a bit repetitive and boring (those with new authors, anyway), but *dude*, it is all good stuff because the SA was elitist in a *good* way.

Oh, man. Hippie Qui-Gon. Mace being asked if he was straight and replying "as a donut. Sorry." This is one of the best fandoms *ever*.

My friend and I read these stories out loud to each other when we need cheering up, and man... they are hysterical.

I must also second this rec. The SA M/O is my very favorite slash pairing ever. Plus, with the funny. Bwah!

Fanfic just does not get any better -- can't believe nobody's recced it here before this.

And I have to say that the SA's just amazing on a meta level, too. We're looking at a sustained shared fanfic universe that grew over the course of two years with remarkable consistency in tone, humor and characterization. I cannot count the ideas and phrases it inspired that have crept into my daily vocabulary and that of my crowd, even those that never read it but only heard about it second-hand.

But mostly it was drop-dead funny. *g*

You really have to read 'em in order. Sure, there's tons of funny, but it's the build-ups that really make the jokes pay off.

Personal favorites:

"Life Lessons at the Sith Academy III," by Siubhan (which you've quoted here--Maul gets a pet).
"Life Lessons at the Sith Academy VI," by Siubhan (Maul gets laid!).
"Nocturnal Admissions," by Rose.
"Darth Maul Mows the Lawn," by the Plaid Adder.

And, um, on an egomaniacal note (oy!), "Life Lessons at the Sith Academy IX" by Siubhan with, um, me (Maul gets PMS), the Dartha Stewart saga I wrote with Darth J. Landry, and "Shiny Happy People," cowritten with Rose.

Plaidder's critical introduction and afterward are also to die (laughing) for, but make more sense if you've read the series.

And the pet Maul ends up with in III is based on my real-life cat, who right now is snoozing away with an aura of menace on the other side of the room. I know she's dreaming of evil.

It's great to see people still enjoying this site three years after it closed its doors. Thanks for reccing the site!
