Little Things by
findmyantidrug (G)
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Characters: Walter Kovacs
Length: >2000
Author on LJ:
findmyantidrug
Author Website: Bleed Ink
Why this must be read:
By the time we meet Rorschach in "Watchmen", Walter Kovacs has effectively died and only the smallest glimpses of the man he used to be remain. We're left with a character who himself prefers only to be thought of as "Rorschach", though behind his idealized facade lies a man who had to slog his way through the worst aspects of poverty since childhood, fighting tooth and nail for his own integrity the whole way. This is a man worth knowing, and "Little Things" gives us an opportunity to walk with him for a bit.
Find has a way of spinning the most mundane details into tiny, brilliant observations of a character. Her stories are poignant and touching without over-sentimentalizing, and this is no exception. This story presents "three times that New York reached out to Walter, and one time he reached back."
