Why this must be read: I was all set to dig up some obscure hidden pearl of a fic for my last rec, but then I saw that this fic had actually never been recced on Crack Van, and I had to remedy that. This is a rollercoaster of a fic, and if you're sensitive to angst you might want to give it a pass--specifically, Ray's mom dies in the first part of the fic, and there's a rather grisly undercover case in the latter parts. But it's really well-written angst, and the fic is full of love for Ray Kowalski, or at least it feels that way to me. Also, this fic feels fresh and new--it's quite plotty and does things I'd never seen before, and there are touches of quirkiness and humor in it that just fill me with love.
