English football has changed so much over the years as has the fandom; however, some of the best fic captures these changes perfectly. 2nd POV stories are very difficult to write without confusing the reader or falling into traps, but this perfectly conveys Owen’s feelings and the trials and tribulations that come with being a footballer. “i had dreams and songs i could sing" has a sort of sequel ‘even if it leads nowhere’

When I started gathering recs for areas I wasn't familiar with I knew I'd have the change to read some high quality fic I hadn't considered before. This is one of them. The emotions in this piece are so raw that they almost make your heart bleed. I don't know as much about English football as would be ideal, but the emotions of this piece come through without the need for background. It's lyrical and stunning.
