Why this must be read: The prompt that inspired this fic speaks volumes by itself: I never meant to hurt you, you have to believe me. I wasn’t thinking about you at all. It is rare to find a Stefan piece that is this insightful and hard and honest and it is harder still to find a Stefan/Elena piece that is this deeply unapolegetic. It is a series of short glimpses of Stefan throughout his time with Elena, each one haunting and bleak in it's own way. From the very beginning, Stefan built this relationship around the ghosts that haunt him. He can't help it; he built himself around them too.
