SING MY HEART by JUDES (adult)

I have followed a diversion into alternative universe territory. The van is running well, but the views are very different.

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 53,161 words
Author on LJ [livejournal.com profile] judesmkThe LJ seems to have been created purely for posting to the Big Bang.

Why this must be read: This is a long and satisfying novel-length AU set in the theatrical world. Unlike Masquerade, which I recced a week or so ago, the lads are not undercover. Doyle really is an actor/singer and Bodie a successful producer looking for a lead for his new production. The men get off to a bad start (just as the lads do in fanon in their partnership), but the twists and turns of the story bring them together. The descriptions of the world and the jobs are detailed and satisfying, and at all times we can see the personalities of the lads, and ask ourselves what things might have been like if they had been born into different circumstances. The answers to that question are what can create a good AU and this story certainly does. It was written for the 2011 Big Bang and has beautiful accompanying art by [livejournal.com profile] mella68. There are only two stories on Judes’ AO3 account and I do hope we hear more from this brilliant author.

*snort*
But often as picturesque...

I really enjoyed this during the Big Bang! They're not out shooting at things or fighting bad guys, but this is very easily recognizable B&D. Happy people, evil (but not too evil) people - it really was like watching a musical. Which is cool, if you ask me. And sort of brilliant.

A really nice mix of Lads and AU.

when it succeeds it's a mark of really good writing

I agree completely! :D

I haven't heard much in the way of descriptions yet for this year (well, it's early), but I'm really looking forward to it. My BB is, er, an AU, I suppose. Well, a hot mess right now, anyway. :D

Oh yes, this was another AU treat from last year's BB! I loved the roles she gave the other agents, too, and all the clever Pros references! :D

Thank you so very much for your kind words. It is wonderful to be appreciated. As for "brilliant author" - ducks head in embarrassment - you're too generous. BTW I have had a LJ account for years, have just never posted on it, just using it to join lists and friend people. And, yes, I only have 2 Pros stories up on AO3 - my only two to date - but I am writing for the Big Bang again this year so, hopefully, there will be at least one other by the autumn. If your recommendation encourages more people to read the story, then I am delighted. So, again, thank you.

Must admit I don't consider myself a slash fan, but I read and loved this story. It was very sweet and atmospheric.
