The Lover by Hth (NC-17)

Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully Mulder/Skinner Mulder/Krycek
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bettyp
Author Website: Hth
Why this must be read:

Three different point of views of Mulder, that reveal as much about the narrators as about their subject. The emotion builds through each story, increasing from almost indifferent observation, to the most intimate fantasies.

I couldn't find this set of stories to start with, because I've always thought of them as The Lover Triptych and that's what I used as my search argument. I remembered them as similar to an altarpiece where you contemplate the different aspects of faith. It's possible to recognise the essential Mulder in each section, yet the difference in tone builds three completely different pictures. The observations are often insightful, the phrasing memorable, and the final sections very erotic. And each character keeps their own voice:

It's the hands that do it, every time. He touches me like no one ever has, as
if his hands were quiet birds, coming home to roost.
...

I have a hundred and fifty fantasies about Mulder, and none of them are cute
little Hollywood pieces; no goddamn way Tom Hanks is playing me in the
big-screen version.
...

There are days I don't know how I let him do the things he does. I have wild
fantasies of clubbing him over the head with my stapler, smuggling him into
Canada, forcing him to live an ordinary life.
