The Mother's Day Gift by N1 (PG)

Why this must be read:
Admittedly, the premise of this fic requires serious suspension of disbelief: as a Mother's Day gift to Kristen Cohen, Ryan grants her a wish--carte blanche to ask him
to do any favor she wants. During a conversation with her husband Sandy, Kirsten speculates on the sort of abuse that Ryan suffered as a child and makes an off-hand wish to "turn back the clock" for Ryan. The next morning Ryan wakes up in the body of a seven-year-old boy.
This story offers more than the almost unbearable cuteness of seven-year-old Ryan; it also explores how Ryan copes with a total loss of control over his life, and having to rely on the Cohens for his most basic needs. Being a child again forces Ryan back to a position of extreme vulnerability and gives him a chance to examine his troubled relationship with his biological mother, Dawn, from a fresh perspective. This is a character-driven story with enough angst and plot to maintain suspense, and a lovely, satisfying resolution. An unexpected gem of a story.
