Why this must be read: because this one just hurts.
While I generally prefer my fics more lighthearted (there's enough angst in everyday life!), this story just grabbed me and would not let go.
It is a talented author indeed who can rip her readers to shreds in under 1,500 words, and ohh_honeybee does it beautifully in this fic.
John (in keeping with this month's theme) is allowed to be vulnerable, but it's Randy who really shines. Perfectly characterized, in all his proud, stubborn glory, ohh_honeybee makes you want to reach through the screen and give him a hug, while simultaneously shaking some sense into him. The fact that Randy's determined to do what he thinks is best, regardless of the cost to John (or himself) is what makes this fic so good. Nobody takes the easy way out, and nobody gets a happy ending... no matter how much they want one.
One additional note: this fic features Randy's real-life wife, Samantha, and his daughter Alanna is mentioned. Although they're not 'characters' on either RAW or Smackdown per se, Samantha has appeared on the shows a couple of times, and Randy can't seem to shut up about Alanna; he talks about her in just about every interview he's given since she was born. (Which is one of the reasons I like the guy so much. ^_^)
