Why this must be read:
This fic deals head on with the 20+ year age difference between Lewis and Hathaway. The author not only deals with it, she convinces me utterly. This is another gorgeously written take on a fandom cliché—the fake relationship—which could have been cloying, but instead is humane, respectful of the past, fully in tune with the characters, and hot. The doubts Lewis has, the honest descriptions of his and James's physicality, the way he and James understand and complement each other: it's all believably and beautifully done.

This is my favorite fic in the entire fandom. I can just hear their voices in every line of dialogue, and I loved watching Lewis interact with his family.

Before you posted your first rec, I said to a friend that there were two or three fics I was absolutely confident would appear on your list, and this is one of them. This, along with another I haven't seen yet (so won't name it) is a fic I return to and re-read at least once a month, I love it so much. Everything about it: Robbie's love for his daughter, the silent presence of Val throughout, James's love and respect for Robbie (so evident even though we only see Robbie's POV), and Robbie's growing realisation that not only are his feelings for James far more than he believed, but they're returned... I just love it :)

In fact, I think I might have to read it again this evening :)

Oh, and I love the fact that you're reccing so many fics!

You see through me I suspect! I have been absolutely loving this - I'm re-reading and re-discovering so many fics this month (more than I can rec without spamming the com) hopefully someone will pick up the keys to the Lewis van again in the future.

I held off a long time on reccing this fabulous one, didn't I? I guess I want to take my time and give love to lots of fics along the way. The third one you mention, which is probably the fic of my heart in this fandom, I can't even write a proper rec for yet - so when I do you'll have to weigh in with one of your lovely comments to explain my bumbling!
