Why this must be read: I don't know about anyone else, but I just about sobbed my way through the first few episodes of season two, and a lot of it was because there was such a stark disconnect between the end of season one and the beginning of season two - and obviously that was done on purpose and makes for excellent television - but you get the feeling like you missed a whole lot between those two episodes. This fic fills in the blanks. And does so perfectly, it takes place between season's one and two and is centered on Tony's issues. The voices are perfect, and the characterization is scarily accurate for every single person. Probably the best gen fic I have read in the fandom.


Except for Effy, everyone comes to see him in pairs, like no one can handle him alone. Like he could handle himself, whatever his self is now. Anwar and Maxxie. Mum and Dad.

Chris has his filthy trainers propped up on the bed next to Tony's legs, reading the book propped up on his lap while Jal glares at him from the next seat over.

"What? Just getting comfortable." He stretches, looking around and wiggling his feet, knocking Tony's knees together. "This place isn't that bad, eh? Nice lighting, drugs delivered right to your veins? Perfick."

"What Chris means to say is you look better, Tony." Jal almost smiles at him.
