Why this must be read:
It's been a long thirty years. Five lies Jack wouldn't have told if he were straight.
There are many, many SG fics that do a completely unrealistic portrayal of gays in the military. Far fewer treat the subject seriously, as anything other than a giant cliche, and this is one of the best. Don't Tell is sharp, smart, to the point, and it weaves the different attitudes at different times through Jack O'Neill's perspective in an interesting way. This is the portrait of a man--and a country, and a military--growing and changing over time. It shows Jack's humor and his intelligence, and how skillfully he uses his dumb act to deflect suspicion.
