There's not a lot of fic about Rudy; he's another of those difficult characters to write. Here, sparky77 just nails the Rudy-Pappy dynamic. On the roadtrip that is the invasion, Rudy and Pappy play a game. Brad tries to figure it out. The banter is fantastic and the radio chatter still fills me with glee. A great look at the guys as a family, with all that entails.

“What about the thing with Brad? We’re trying to beat him,” Pappy says.

“No, we’re not,” Rudy says. “We’re trying to lead him to enlightenment, to soothe his troubled soul.”

“By beating him,” Pappy says.
