From a Different League by inplayruns (NC-17)

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] littlestclouds and I drove the van for baseball fandom a few years ago. You can find my attempt at a fandom overview here. Not much has changed by way of a fandom overview, so I won't rehash it here.

Fandom: BASEBALL RPF
Pairing: Alex Rodriguez/Andy Pettitte primarily, with some side Alex Rodriguez/Kate Hudson and mention of Alex Rodriguez/OCs
Length: 60,800
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] inplayruns
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] inplayruns' masterlist
Why this must be read: The premise may be... out of this world, but this fic is also grounded in the very real feelings of isolation, alienation and loneliness that often afflict the outsider. In this case, the outsider is millionaire ballplayer Alex Rodriguez. From a Different League follows Rodriguez' search for a "home" and a sense of belonging that he doesn't have at the outset. Why is he on the outside looking in? Will he ever find what he's looking for? It's a testament to [livejournal.com profile] inplayruns' writing that you end up caring about Rodriguez, his journey, and the answers to these questions.

Much like New York, Miami never really turns into nighttime all the way. Well yeah, the sun goes down and the sky gets inky dark, but the city’s always loud, laughter slipping through the avenues. There’s a neon haze over the streets. Truth be told, that’s why Alex loves it here. He can breathe this city’s energy, fill his lungs with it. It’s not like New York City, either; that place is too abuzz and confusing, even, with too many different thoughts and wants. Lou grouses about it a lot, even Thurm throws in a comment every now and then, and Alex agrees. Miami’s perfect, though. He’d roll in this energy if he could.
