Why this must be read:

This fic takes one of my favorite tropes, namely hostage situation in a bank robbery heist, and keeps it interesting and new by mixing up action with a bit of h/c all the while keeping Neal and Peter so in-character that you could see it play out like that in an episode. (Author's Summary: Neal and Peter get caught up in a bank heist. It comes out that one of the hostages is a cop: Neal volunteers that it’s him.) As much as I like fluff without plot, a well done plotty fic is exactly what I need once in a while and the tension the author creates in this fanfiction keeps your attention until the very end. On top of that, we also have emotional scenes that show how much Neal and Peter care about one another so that all in all we have a nice mixture of character moments and plot, action/tension and moving scenes.

Neal’s eyes are bright and Peter can see the fear in them as he is dragged further into the room, past the dead man lying in a pool of his own blood. He is pushed forward roughly and stumbles into Peter as he is ordered to the floor.

When the gunman moves away, Peter looks around and whispers sharply, “Where’s the receptionist?”

“Helped her climb into an air duct when we heard the gunshots”. Neal is slightly breathless and Peter knows his friend’s heart must be racing just like his own.

“And you?”

“I was too slow”, Neal replies, but somehow Peter doesn’t believe him.
