(Fic) Rise and Shine by roachpatrol (NC17)
And here's my last rec for the month! I saved the absolute best for last, IMO, and it's deliciously ironic that the author of this fic was the last Homestuck reccer before me here. Happy New Year to you all! ^__^
Fandom: HOMESTUCK
Pairing: Rose/Vriska, Rose/Eridan, Vriska/Terezi
Length: 14,277

Why this must be read: This is like Dexter meets Homestuck, forms a kismessitude, then takes MIND-BLOWING on as a matesprit, AND THEN the three of them have tons of incestuous slurry grubs together. I... Just... It's really hard to find the words to give this story the justice it deserves. It's mind-blowing and horrific but you can't get off the ride because you want, no, NEED to see where this is going; where it will end. This is a serial killer AU and Rose is broken and vicious and Vriska is nonchalant and Vriska, and they care/hate each other so much that it leaves you exhausted when you finally learn where they stand in the Quadrants. And beyond that? This story is gorgeous to behold. The beginning leads you into one emotional bracket and then mood whiplashes you halfway through so that by the time Vriska and Rose are discussing where they stand in the quadrants, you're on the edge of your seat, biting your nails, and THEN YOU'RE SCREAMING AT YOUR COMPUTER BECAUSE OF WHAT FOLLOWS. Oh gog, yes, this fic is absolutely excellent!
Summary:
“I’m probably not going to like you, and you’re definitely not going to like me,” she says, all in an urgent rush, “but circumstances being what they are I do believe we need each other.”
She holds up a piece of paper: your ad, printed out. One room8 needed, ASAP!!!!!!!!
Excerpt:
A week later a package is left on your doorstep. You bring it inside and unwrap it -- it’s a police scanner. Rose hovers like a vengeful spirit in the back of the kitchen, and there is a distant staticky roaring noise in your ears.
“You know how to use one of these, don’t you?” she asks quietly. “I got an old model, I thought you’d be more familiar with it.”
You nod, convulsively. It’s easy as thought to check all the connections -- it would work. All you have to do is turn it on, tune it in. Rose sits down across from you, fingers folded around her mug of coffee.
“Thought you were quitting,” you say.
“Some habits die hard,” she says.
You tug the cup out of her curled fingers, you pour it down the sink. Then you take the coffee pot and pour that down the sink too, and then you drop the whole contraption in the kitchen trash.
“One vice at a time, Lalonde,” you say.
She bares her teeth like she’s thinking of taking a chunk out of your throat, but she doesn’t move. She suffers you to stroke her fair shock of hair, over and over, till it lies elegant and flat. Even groomed, no one could mistake this girl for anything remotely domesticated. There is a terrible fury in her, a lightning storm raging just beneath her skin and you have no idea how long you’ll be able to outrun the storm.
You turn the scanner on.
