Why this must be read: The "In Our House" series is a recent collection from youtooblondie, who is a talented and well-recognized poet in the S&H (and real) world. The poems appeared at a perfect time for me, when my angst reservoir was full up, and I longed to see the guys in a non-threatening place, safe and sheltered from the world. These little poems take us there, into a home built on trust, survival, contentment, and promises kept. Oh--and spicy sex, of course! We see the guys teasing, puttering, chattering, and other (!) things--uninhibited and secure.
I hope you will take a moment and step into their home. The door, to which only they have the key, guards prized posessions such a guitar, a bed, books with well-turned pages. Their rooms, where they may wander half-naked or more, shelter them as they nurture what is most precious of all--each other's hearts and souls. Once inside their home, you may never want to leave.
youtooblondie's poetry is subtle, like an alluring person turned in silhouette. Her words are never forced and never obvious, never frothy or verbose. They evoke richness and mystery. With so few words, she tells complete and rewarding stories. These poems are about happiness and love and safety. But, don't get me wrong...youtooblondie is no one-tricker. She always reserves the right to take you on any type of journey--from fear to sorrow to passion, and everything in-between. If you explore her other writings, you will see what I mean.
Using these words, the poet Mark Doty once expressed the sparkling and sometimes harrowing journeys of lovers: "To be nowhere is to be in heaven, isn't it, in the boundless, loose from the limits of time and space? Isn't the whole world heaven's coast?" Doty was writing about the legacy of love and loss--where a life well lived contains memories only possible because of one other very special person. I believe his vision is true, and that youtooblondie shares his map to the interior continent of the heart--certainly these boy's hearts.
