Why this must be read: Of all the talented writers in the S&H fandom--and we are enriched to have so many, Morgan Logan is probably my absolute favorite. I was not surprised to find all of my top picks of her stories already recommended! She has a way with the boys and their personalities, never averse to putting them under the microscope or teasing out a trait or a theme. Even when raw, dark, or edgy, she has the ability to see them with a loving eye--and to build powerful stories around their emotions, their love, their struggles, their doubts. As a reader, I am drawn to her works time and time again. The stories never get old, and I find something new to appreciate with each reading.
"The Thin Brown Line" is a post "The Plague" story. For so few words, it packs a powerful punch. The story is told from Dobey's POV, as he observes "his boys" in a precarious and twilight time, when Hutch's fate is still uncertain. It is no surprise to Dobey that Starsky knows Hutch best of all, and that Starsky is the one person Hutch would respond to. The easy part of love is obvious--the joy and value it brings. The harder part of love--that it is always tinged with the possibility of loss--is a theme Morgan explores with such style and force. At its heart, this story is about love and the redeeming power of faith.
Thank you, Agent Molo--for this story and so many others! And my apologies for yet another formatting disaster--something about my brower and LJ isn't playing nicely at all. I hope that problem is resolved soon!
