Fear of Rectangles by Jackie Thomas (R)
It's an oldie again, but golden.
FANDOM: WEST WING
Pairing: Josh/Sam
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Wayfinding
Spoilers: Season 2 (I got yelled at for not spoiler-protecting my earlier rec. I intend to be spared anymore of that).
Why this must be read:
"Noel" is just about perfect, but, if it lacks anything, it's a good Josh/Sam dynamic. Many writers have addressed that lack. This story, with it's tender, spare, heart-rending prose, fills that lack as well as anything I've seen.
The story consists of three missing scenes. The last one, in particular, is wrenching. There's also a companion piece, "A Strategy for Curved Edges," which is a post-ep for "Somebody's Going to Emergency; Somebody's Going to Jail." Also highly recommended.
Read and enjoy:
