Why this must be read:
The next trope on the list is animal transformations. You will find quite a few of these on AO3. This isn't were-animals, although there are plenty of them, but a temporary transformation into some sort of animal. It usually serves the same sort of plot device as the de-aged trope - where one player is forced to rely on the care of the object of his UST. Authors usually match the animal involved to the player's personality (Sidney Crosby as a penguin, natch).
I had a horrible time choosing between two really good ones, but finally went with the less-read of the two.
This story features Tazer as a hedgehog, because of course he is. Unlike most transformation stories, this one is told from the POV of the one experiencing the transformation. As Jonathan gradually comes to understand more about his feelings for Kaner and vice versa, he also realizes how much he trusts Patrick to take care of him in his vulnerable state.

I fell into Hockey RPS fandom several weeks ago, and I still don't really know what's happening to me, except that I love it. ;-) So this is excellent timing!
