This has always been a powerful story to me because what's done and what's remembered are two different things. This, along with Total Ecclipse, gets to me because Starsky's able to forget, but Hutch is continually on the outside looking in and remembering "this happened and I can't pretend it didn't."

YES! That's what's so heartbreaking -- not even the fact that things don't work out as they "should", but the fact that you know, you just *know*, that this is going to eat him up inside. *sniffles*

I love this story at the same time that I hate it for ripping my heart out, you know?
