Starsky and Hutch Slash Virtual Season by Multiple Authors (Various, PG to Explicit)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 44 stories of varying length, most long
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: http://www.zebra3productions.org/ (additional links to individual seasons below the cut)
Why this must be read:
In 2001, long before LiveJournal spawned the "Big Bang" phenomena, a group of Starsky and Hutch fans decided to work on an ambitious undertaking: the Starsky and Hutch Slash Virtual Season. Multiple writers, editors, and artists devised a plan for a cohesive continuing series of stories that would take up Starsky and Hutch's story right after the aired series concluded. The last aired episode ended in Season 4 with Starsky surviving a near-fatal assassination attempt. So, in the Virtual Season 5, as the summary of the first story explains, "Starsky grapples with his recovery, Hutch begins working with a temporary partner, and both men face changing feelings about their relationship."
The Virtual Season continued from 2001-2004, giving us 44 lengthy stories, many of them case stories, and numerous artworks, including wallpapers and other images. The Seasons were even compiled into hefty zines, now out of print. The Virtual Season is a treasure of fannish creativity, and includes some of our most respected writers, such as Candy Apple, Sarah Problem, Theresa Kyle, Lucy, Keri T., Paula Wilshe, Ellis Murdock, and Kaye Austen Michaels. While individual stories have been rec'd here in the past, the entire series has not.
I especially wanted to recommend the Virtual Season now, because the website hosting the series is aging, and emails to the webmistress have been bouncing. We have a tendency to think that fiction on the internet will always be there, but nothing could be further from the truth. At least one story has been removed at the author's request, though I believe most of the other links are active. I am concerned that the domain may expire without warning, and that the entire site may be endangered. I strongly recommend fans interested in the Virtual Season capture the stories soon and save them, as I have, to enjoy at their leisure. Don't wait.
