Why this must be read:
She is Nataliya. She is Nathalie. She is Talia. She is Natasza. She is Natasha. A story of how Natasha Romanoff found herself, with a little help from that annoying American with the bow.
I love Natasha Romanoff backstory fic- the different ways the author can take years and training in the red room and bring the Black Widow to the point where she switches her loyalties always seems a fantastic period to mine for good backstory. Especially in the universes where Clint is the one to recruit her.
Natasha works for the Red Room and keeps running into Clint Barton during jobs. Even as Natasha’s identity (name, hair colour, nationality, family background) shifts, molds, and changes depending on what the job or her handlers require, Clint Barton is a constant in a way that highlights the differences in their organizations. Natasha is intrigued by it as her relationship with the Red Room shifts and slowly devolves- it being difficult for a brain washing manipulative agency to keep firm control over someone so sharp and quick on their feet.
The first past is mostly gen, and the Clint/Natasha pairing comes in the 2nd chapter.
