Why this must be read: I admit I'm a sucker for what amounts to "origin stories" in this fandom. That is, taking facts regarding players' travels in their early years and using those detours to develop the story. The more attention to those details, the better the story. While many elite players were also elite junior players, David Ferrer was not one of those. As a result, his career has been more of a fight as he was passed over by his own country in those early years by Tommy Robredo - players who have become the closest of friends. That's the basic outline regarding this rollercoaster love story, taking place over a span of ten years. In the fic, that fight leads to some rather self-destructive consequences for both of them.
