So I considered hiding this rec a little further down the list to sort of disguise the fact that in my 12 or so recs 2 were by the same author by not doing them together, but then I reread this when I recced my first fic by thehoyden a few days ago and couldn't wait to share my squee.

It is fair to say Patrick Kane has had a few ~issues of the ice. BTW, my favorite primer for Kane/Toews is here. Check it out, despite it being so old a few pics links are broken, it still makes me giggle and will no doubt hook you in as much as it did me.

Anyway, this fic suggests that to keep himself out of trouble, Patrick Kane should take up a nice, healthful hobby such as knittingwriting a novel. He's surprisingly good at it. He writes what he knows - hockey and Tazer - and writing it makes him have to consider what he knows in a slightly different light:

“I don’t—” Patrick starts, and then sits down on his bed. “Maybe we should — okay, hold up. Where are you getting this?”

Maryam is quiet for a minute. “Maybe you should tell me where you’re getting this. How do West and Sazonov feel about each other? The best of friends don’t act like they do.”

“Yes, they do,” Patrick insists, because okay, he’s been writing what he knows, and what he knows is him and Johnny.

“They really don’t, Patrick,” Maryam says gently.
