Hi, I'm aishuu and I'm reccing for "small fandoms" this month. I love small fandoms, and I'm going to be spotlighting small fandoms by the following criteria:

1 - The fandom cannot have been recced on crack_van before;

2 - The fic cannot originate with the yuletide exchange (because yuletide fics have, generally speaking, been picked over and recced disproportionately to "off season" small fandom fics).

This is really broad so hopefully I'll be able to pull from that fandom that only had 10 fics, or inspire someone to realize that there's some "big" small fandoms no one's ever driven for (and they're overdue for a driver!).

The President's Daughter is one of those nostalgia series for me - I always loved the cast and the intelligence of the characters, and it's what prepared me for The West Wing. The book series was originally set very firmly in the eighties politics and culture, but was updated around 2007 to update the references. Finding fic that I enjoy for it is always a delight - and I like that this fic manages to catch the character's voices so well. It provides a future for Meghan that I not only believe, but I like and hope for - it's a "happy" ending for her and a ship I like the sail.

What makes this fic work for me is the wittiness. The author has managed to catch White's tone perfectly, and the epistolary excerpts are really well done and help advance the story.



Excerpt:

The subject line of Beth's email simply read explain and Meg opened it, curious as to what she'd done now. Being the most junior law clerk at the First Circuit Court of Appeals didn't leave a great deal of time to have even imaginary peccadillos to be sprawled across the internet. Which was a shame, really. Meg missed having peccadilloes.

Oh, I loved this series and when I saw it had been updated I cringed, but it actually worked ok. I'm so sailing this ship, too. They were totally fun and adorable together.

I know this, I thought this post fell under a preexisting tag. I'm used to help here adding tags for other users for many months now, but this one I can't so this user should ask mods for the new tag.

I am a mod, and we check tags once a day or two, as we're online. It's not necessary to let us know that a tag needs to be created.

Interesting way of doing the Small Fandoms. I'm looking forward to seeing if you rec anything I know anything about - I prefer to actually know the source material when I'm reading fanfic. But on the other hand, fanfic that sounds interesting can get me to read the source material.

This is exactly the reaction I'm hoping for. Either I manage to connect with one of the 10 people who love the same obscure series I do, or I manage to get someone else into it (note I'll be linking the fandom name to a resource site in order to provide a bit of background).

I like this idea! There are always going to be a few tiny fandoms without enough fiction to get a month here--but combining them like this will get them some attention. I'm really interested to see what you've got coming up :)
