Why this must be read: In this retelling, we meet Aditi, a bright 15-year-old Indian girl who's pretty good with computers. Her father brags that she can make any computer system un-hackable. A large firm gives him money and she's forced to prove her father's claim or face prosecution. Of course, a hacker extraordinaire comes to her rescue, but what he demands from her is more than a necklace.

There is some creep factor here, but then the original story is rather creepy, what with all the greed, the selling off of the daughter and the demand for her first-born. I think Livianna did a great job transforming it for the modern world, especially addressing the power imbalances. Enjoy.
