After a while you noticed you'd stopped watching Tsuzuki as carefully as you used to.

He was still, as Kurosaki pointed out very loudly and very frequently, a moron about certain things. Sometimes "moron" wasn't a strong or specific enough word--dingbat, blockhead, numbskull all worked just as well on separate occasions. But he didn't need quite so much support; you rarely saw him look lost or crippled by slow waves of sadness. He took hits for his partner without a second thought, and bore no scars. He regretted less. He teased you without fear.

He came back from the edge when he was called, and he came back stronger than you'd ever seen him.

You see that soft look on his face now and then. It's not for you, and somehow that doesn't hurt anymore.
