Using the "old as Kirk and Spock" plot device of the accidental psychic bond, Spike, Tara, and Buffy first pair off to deal with their new mental intimacy before coming to the understanding that there is a deeper force at work which won't accept anything less than complete union. A post-Willow Tara finds her place with two passionate lovers and her soothing care helps push Spike and Buffy’s relationship past the "hitting each other in the head stage."

I'm with you on the Kirk/Spock psychic bond, but it's been imported to x number of fandoms with absolutely no canon basis. Highlander and Star Wars particularly stick out to me. So, yes, I totally acknowledge that Kirk and Spock had psychic bond canon - I just find it amusing how many of those old plots resurface across fandom in all sorts of interesting permutations. My personal fav is the body swap or gender swap fic, but that is a rec for another day.
